Kai Rui Hotel

Location great. close to Zhongyang Street. Clean rooms and polite staff. Comfy bed and a bath! Yoghurt and fruit each day in the room! Very warm in the rooms but actually you need it after a day outside in January in Harbin! Breakfast was in a small room and I guess I arrived at the morning rush but I had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. Not a bad breakfast selection but nothing to write home about. The hotel is below normal standard. It is extremely smelly everywhere. Very poor and dirty. It does not match the photos posted in the advertisement online. More seriously, the price of the hotel advertised via booking is much much higher than the price on the hotel’s website or on the Chinese/local website! - it is only around 300RMB on local websites but more than double of the price on booking! It is an entire lie, of both the price, quality and standard! I never ever had such an annoying experience before. For some reason, we were given a room with a bathtub and weren't expected to use it. Upon inquiring, we were told that it hadn't been in use for a while. I wish we were informed prior so that we can pay extra for a room with a functioning bathtub or requested a room without one. Personally, it was a big let down. The food was decent (I didn't eat much). I wish they had actual fresh milk. This was a last minute trip and we had nothing planned. The front desk was very helpful even before our arrival. We had tons of questions which they responded to timely, even when we got to the hotel after midnight they were tirelessly friendly and patient with us. "Interactions with the staff were great throughout our stay." The Ayi making eggs for breakfast make our eggs exactly as we like them despite a few misunderstandings. The following day, she just made for us without us asking. That was pretty awesome of her!!! (Many thanks). The room had a big bathroom. I saw the pictures before booking but it didn't prepare me for the real thing. Whoooa! Loved it. The room itself was decent in size (I don't remember much... because of that bathroom :p). The location is right in between the cable car 'station' and the market area.
