About company
Institute for Atmospheric Physics The DLR Institute for Atmospheric Physics researches the physics and chemistry of the global atmosphere from the ground to the upper edge of the middle atmosphere at an altitude of around 120 km. As an institute of the German Aerospace Center, the institute answers relevant questions relating to the atmosphere in the HGF programs Aviation, Space, Transport and Energy for the DLR. Institute director: Prof. Dr. Markus Rapp Institute for Atmospheric Physics (IPA) The Institute for Atmospheric Physics is located at the DLR site in Oberpfaffenhofen. His tasks include research in the field of physics and chemistry of the atmosphere. The institute has around 140 employees and is divided into six departments. The DLR Institute for Atmospheric Physics researches the physics and chemistry of the global atmosphere from the ground to the upper edge of the middle atmosphere at an altitude of around 120 km. As an institute of the German Aerospace Center, the institute answers relevant questions relating to the atmosphere in the HGF programs Aviation, Space, Transport and Energy for the DLR. To this end, the institute covers the entire range of methods from sensor development, observations on different spatial scales (local to global), analysis, theory formation and numerical modeling, including predictive capabilities. With the help of these competencies, the institute works on both basic and application-related issues. The basic research is of great importance, because often only long-term basic research enables the realization of a specific application. Building on this, the institute is a competent contact for all questions relating to the atmosphere for society and politics.
